Deliberate Crippling of Children

I liken this to some things I saw in the “third world” where poor parents would intentionally deform their children so that the child could play on the sympathies of people and collect more money begging.

  1. Wow, I think this is pretty bad. I think many of these “designer” babies are going to HATE their parents in the future if the truth comes out. People playing God, it is amazing.

  2. How far does it go?

Who would want to bring a child that may be short into the world?
Who would want to bring a child that will have freckles into the world?
Who would want to bring a child that may be fat into the world?
Who would want to bring a dark-skinned child into the world?
Who would want to bring an average child into the world?

  3. I’m short, I mean petite :) but that won’t stop me from bringing a baby into the world knowing that they could wind up petite like me. Now would I deliberately choose to have my child come out short so that they can be like me…HELL NO!

I don’t recall being excessively teased when I was younger but if I were a dwarf I would never DELIBERATELY choose to bring a dwarf child into the world. Little kids and ignorant and rude adults will just stare at them and/or tease them. On top of that, a dwarf person would be at a severe disadvntage in the business world where tall people have the advantage over average sized people to begin with. Why would I put my child through that just so that I can say my child looks like me. That is just LOCO!

  4. My father was born deaf. When he was 4, his hearing was repaired via surgery, but it took him years to get his spoken English completely right. He’s a very smart, very eloquent guy and I hate to think what would have happened if PC jackasses had said “You’re devaluing the experiences of the deaf by ‘fixing’ him” or, even worse, the ‘deaf culture’ people had forced him to remain where they were. If you have a child with a disability (which, like it or not, if what deafness is), and you don’t repair it when you can, in my eyes it’s child abuse.
