Request for help
A good friend of mine sent the following and I encourage everyone to help in whatever way they can as young Muslim women like Sehrish put lie to the image of all Muslims as irrational medievalists
—————–
Many of us are often concerned about portraying an accurate image of Islam and Muslims, getting involved with domestic social and charitable causes, and helping Muslims to cope with the challenges of living in the West. I want to present an opportunity to all of you that addresses all these things and more. In fact, I’m requesting your assistance in any way possible.
On August 10th through 12th, my younger sister (Sehrish Siddiqui) will be participating in the “Breast Cancer 3 Day” sponsored by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust in Chicago, IL ( click here for more information about the organization ). Please read below for details of why this is an amazing event to sponsor.
Some of you may already be familiar with this wonderful organization through their widely known and respected work. The race is actually a 60 (yes, that’s sixty) mile walk spanning three days. The goal for each participant is to raise at least $2,200 for breast cancer research. But, insha’Allah, we want to surpass that by as much as possible.
Alhamdulillah, many of you have already donated online and with existing pledges and checks our total so far is over $4,000! Let’s keep it going!
Breast cancer is very common throughout the majority Muslim regions of the world including the Middle East, Indo-Pak region, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Many Muslim women are diagnosed with it every year and many die because of the expense associated with treatment or simply a lack of treatment available in their locality.
However, there is hope that this illness will be curable one day soon. Organizations such as the Susan G. Komen for the Cure help further research for all women around the world that will lead to a cure for this awful illness. If you know anyone that has been afflicted with it then you know exactly how awful it can be.
If you reside in the USA, please make credit card payments at the link below or write a check to “Susan G. Komen for the Cure” and all donations will be tax-deductible. We kindly request that you do NOT make checks payable to my name or my Sister’s name (also any cash donations cannot be tax deductible for this cause).
Please click the link below and donate generously.

In closing, I want to add that my Sister has participated in similar events several times in the past (even years before 9/11) and it makes a HUGE difference in the perception of Muslims to non-Muslims when they see the Muslim community actively participating in such an event. Of course everyone may not have the time to walk but you can participate by sponsoring my Sister (or anyone else you know participating in this race) and donating to this noble, worthwhile cause.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions and/or concerns.
JazzakumAllahu khayran!

Best wishes with your endeavor. I plan to do a post about it, and link this article, in the next few days.
