A mentally ill convert in NYC allegedly plotted to kill the Mayor. And the Muslims quickly called the police (not a small detail)
A mentally unstable Muslim convert tried to recruit help at a Brooklyn mosque to kill Mayor Bloomberg, prompting the NYPD to beef up security around the mayor, law enforcement sources said.
American-born Edwin Thomas allegedly spoke of his plot in August at the Al Farooq mosque in Brooklyn, the source said.
But worshipers promptly alerted the authorities.
Thomas prays regularly at the Atlantic Ave. mosque, which gained a reputation for radicalism in the 1990s and after Sept. 11, its members said.
Although Thomas was not arrested, investigators had spoken to him and were keeping tabs on him, the sources said.
Mohamed Houras, 28, of Brooklyn, said people like Thomas often flock to Al Farooq.
“They come in all the time,” Houras said. “These guys go to jail, convert and then show up at the mosque with plots. They talk jihad, but they’re out of their minds.
I can’t stress enough that they (who talk like this) really are out of their minds. I have written on this blog that many of those converts that talk of doing some insane act actually ARE insane. I am convinced that Adam Gadahn - for example - is very very likely mentally ill and needs to in an asylum for the criminally insane. This is one reason I feel that we must temper anti-Westernism because some people just don’t know how to discern

You have to before he ends up doing something crazy and getting a lot of people hurt or killed.
I don’t say this as a joke and I feel sorry for people that do not have proper mental capacity

I don’t want to give the impression that all convert inmates are insane - I don’t think Adam Gadahn was an inmate at all. But there IS a potential problem with brothers (in or out of jail) that are insane being affected by certain rhetoric. This is my point and they can potentially be dangerous to both Muslims and non-Muslims.
Tariq, my beloved brother. first we must get people to understand the seriousness of mental illness. The average person just doesn’t get it.
There is one sister, I’m aware of, in our community and NO ONE is able to help her. I keep telling them she needs help…no one is listening….AAARGGGHH!

We had a similar story like this in my old city… there was a mentally ill Asian convert who went to the imam of an Islamic centre and told him that he’s willing to kill anyone, if he (the imam) tells him to. Of course, the imam called the cops ASAP, and they raided the guy’s house to find an entire arsenal of weapons under his bed.
The guy was never charged, though - which everyone in the community thought was weird, and made more than a few people think that maybe the guy was a spy or mole sent in by CSIS.
