Hoarding

Some are reverting back to pre-Y2K style hoarding of supplies and moving into the country side. The end if near!!! Meanshile, “doomsdayists” are now saying that the end of the world as we know it has been pushed back and is now going to be 2012 - which is enough time to get a few books sold until the next scheduled end of the world as we know it.

But most importantly, don’t forget to get your official end times 2012 t-shirts and other accessories so you can look good when the world breaks down into chaos and everyone becomes night crawlers and cannibals

A few years ago, Kathleen Breault was just another suburban grandma, driving countless hours every week, stopping for lunch at McDonald’s, buying clothes at the mall, watching TV in the evenings.

That was before Breault heard an author talk about the bleak future of the world’s oil supply. Now, she’s preparing for the world as we know it to disappear.

Breault cut her driving time in half. She switched to a diet of locally grown foods near her upstate New York home and lost 70 pounds. She sliced up her credit cards, banished her television and swore off plane travel. She began relying on a wood-burning stove.

“I was panic-stricken,” the 50-year-old recalled, her voice shaking. “Devastated. Depressed. Afraid. Vulnerable. Weak. Alone. Just terrible.”

Convinced the planet’s oil supply is dwindling and the world’s economies are heading for a crash, some people around the country are moving onto homesteads, learning to live off their land, conserving fuel and, in some cases, stocking up on guns they expect to use to defend themselves and their supplies from desperate crowds of people who didn’t prepare.

The exact number of people taking such steps is impossible to determine, but anecdotal evidence suggests that the movement has been gaining momentum in the last few years.

These energy survivalists are not leading some sort of green revolution meant to save the planet. Many of them believe it is too late for that, seeing signs in soaring fuel and food prices and a faltering U.S. economy, and are largely focused on saving themselves.

Some are doing it quietly, giving few details of their preparations

  1. I kinda have this theory that every time we come up with a new definitive date for the end, Allah pushes back the end time even further. Only Allah knows the end and that gives me more piece of mind than any apocalypse theory ever could. I must say though that having people become more self reliant is never a bad thing. :)

  2. Oh I forgot to add that I heard a hadeeth (I have never read it so I’m not sure if it’s sahih or not) that says something to the effect that the Prophet (saws) told a man that if the end time nears and he is planting a tree he should continue to plant the tree. Whether the hadeeth is true or not I think the message is right. Just keep doing what you’re doing, no matter if you have four or forty years left.

  3. I suspect that the people in London would be saying, “As long as we get the Olympics out of the way, then the world can go to heck in a hand-basket anytime after that.” ;)

  4. Lord have mercy…all of those folks trying to play God again.

  5. As Salaam Alaikum,
Because I believe in judgement day I am very well of the fact that there will indeed be a last day. But I have to admit that I too get all nervous inside when people start calling out these precise dates of when the world is suppose to end— whether it be judgement day, or the time a humongous star is suppose to hit the plant and compeltely demolish it. I think that it’s really scary and makes me think twice. I don’t necesarily believe in it, but you never know.

About conserving food and stuff, hey with the way things seem to be going I too am wondering if I should start building a small garden in the backyard. If that makes me a nutcase then so be it!

  6. Salaams Brother:

I admit that I am guilty of buying TWO bags of rice when they said there is a shortage, lol.

In Hamza Yusuf’s “Purification of the Heart” he spells out how one of the diseases of the heart is the fear of not having enough and the subsequent hoarding that comes out of that disease.

  7. ASA

THIS IS A GIMICK!!! These end of world threats come around every so often in order to get people to “consume” to boost the economy by purchasing things they will never use or don’t.

sort of like the idea that “diamond” supplies are finite it’s all a gimick

  8. Muslims have clear signs when the end will be near, there are plenty of major ones, but yet there still need to be a few more like yajooj and majooj and the return of Isa (as) and the coming of the Mahdi.

    But

Muslim sources in the Middle East say the Mahdi has been born in the recent years….

May Allah (swt) keep our iman strong during these coming years until our death and grant us all jannah! Ameen!

  9. 2012 sounds about right. We have peaked in oil production, no doubt about that. The economic crash has caused demand destruction greater then the oil decline percentage so we probably won’t notice shortage for a while. But when the economy picks up, so will demand for oil……….oil that won’t be provided…….that’s probably going to happen in a couple of years then give it a little while to boil over into world wide chaos. Then the real economic callapse will come, when everyone finally realises what is happening. They will stop spending on recreation, entertainment, start hording, stealing, civil unrest etc. Countries will get really desperate, countries that have oil will be under heaps of pressure, and fear of attack, countries that need more oil will be under heaps of pressure to wave magical wand and get it for their people………final product……WAR………..probably including nuclear weapons. Then we will have the ultimate in demand destruction……half the people demand half the oil, so the chaos system will actually work and decrease the population of humanity to a level where there is enough oil to provide again. Not that the nukes are going to escalate to wipe out half of humanity…but when you take into account the nukes, the fallout, the radiation, the resultant lose of all lives that need constant medical attention to remain living, the very old, the sick, those reliant on medications, the looting, killing, suicide, murder, lack of food, water, even if you break a leg or get a bad dose of flu in the aftermath your probably going to wind up dead. Add to that the hording of all those that batton down with their fingers on the trigger waiting for those that didn’t prepare to come a begging.

I know which group I’d rather be. My preperations are in an advanced stage. And why the hell should I share a damn thing with all those people who have not sacrificed one damn thing in their lives to prepare, they spend their days and nights consuming way to much energy, food, wasting their incomes on going out, raging, drinking, etc. Driving their performance cars, V8s, four wheel drives, SUVs and hummers, going to bed leaving lights on, computers on, or TV still going, buying every new gadget made of plastic and disposing of it in perfectly good working order in favor of another one just because it’s design is more fashionable, same with clothes, furniture, etc etc. Everything takes energy to produce, and you people just consume and waste, you are the cause of the problem, and when you come to the properties of those who have lived much more sustainably and prepared for the shit hole world that you have made inevitable, you will get what you finally deserve.
