On that Michelle Obama Caricature

Like many others, I didn’t understand what the New Yorker was trying to say about Michelle Obama in their attempt at satire in their portrayal of Michelle Obama. Apparently, they were trying to make an angry Angela Davis look alike. Kim McClarin explaining why it was offensive to gun carrying black women in this column. She also expresses something that I was thinking that would have made this less “tasteless”:

I’m no political cartoonist, but wouldn’t it have been more pointed to add a window with Rush Limbaugh peeking through in horror? Or to have had Bill O’Reilly sitting on the couch with a grin?

That would have made the point. I suppose all of this is par for the course. I remember in 2004, Republicans in some Southern Districts were passing out flyers that stated that John Kerry wanted to ban the Bible. I can also remember in 1992 hearing a commercial that stated that George Bush, Sr was planning to repeal the Martin Luther King Holiday. 1. new york magazine is diff from the nyer - ny magazine tends to be a fyi for nyers on what’s going on about town while the nyer is more literary and intellectual

  2. Hey, don’t blame this on the conservatives….this was a liberals idea of how he thought conservatives see OB…you know, supposed to be funny.
Anyway, as a conservative, I think Michelle is hot although with a bit of ‘tude’. Although ‘tude’ with fully auto weapons can be an issue.
Funny though, I see her as being more capable with a weapon than OB, he might hurt himself.

  3. The only reason that this Mr. & Mrs. Obama satire DOES have impact

  4. sure satire based on a false premise can pass and pivot on a germ of truth.
