Blacks Vote Their Interests Too

UPDATE: An excellent article (via Jack and Jill Politics) by Adam Serwer on this topic. Unfortunately, I don’t think Tinker’s defeat will stop the pundits from continuing to claim that blacks vote strictly and exclusively on race
Fox’s Hannity and Colmes invited the Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson onto the show to say what white right-wing pundits would feel less comfortable saying. Peterson blamed the entire black community of the 9th District, declaring that
I hope they do highlight this as it’s a great story.
I know we have issues, in this our country, and they need addressing but we need to talk about the good things too.
We too often only talk about the negative when there is a great deal of positive around us.
The media has a narrative to promote. They tend to ignore facts opposing the narrative unless they are too large and stark to ignore.
The narrative is that Obama has a white working class problem, even though a poll came out last week showing him beating McCain in this category by 10points. The narrative is that he’s got Blacks in the bag because he’s black, and it helps to play up the idea that he’s all style and no substance. Blacks couldn’t POSSIBLY like him because he’s got good ideas.
BO’s problem is with Hillary’s older female supporters.
I agree that Black voters like him for various reasons but even folks on this site have said they’ll vote for him just because of his color, and one ind. because he has an arabic name. I guess I understand that to a point.
However, the Black Republican Caucus has other ideas.
Regardless, vote and be a part of the process.
Black people who speak like Paterson are an insult to the civil rights leaders and other freedom fighters who helped that fool gain his right to vote, those same supposed “race-baiting” Blacks that died for people like him to be where he is. He should n’t forget where he came from because at the rate that our country is going , he never know when he will have to depend on some of the Black Demos to help him.
I wonder how those same freedomfighters would feel to know that Black people , like Jesse who basically call their fight for his right for his existence and to vote a sham? That is exactly what he is saying everytime he talks such racially divisive trash like he mentions in the article.
As-Salaamu ‘alaikum,
Was the “our churches” reference her only statement which could be interpreted as Jew-bashing? Given that blacks and whites tend to attend different churches, as I understand it, perhaps she was just referring to a white man visiting black churches?
