James Farrow expresses exactly what I am afraid of in the coming Biden/Palin debate. Low expectations. As long as Palin is not horribly bad - as she has been recently - then she will actually look good:
I’m not joking about this: in the wake of her catastrophic performance in the Katie Couric interview, Sarah Palin [...]

Keith Ellison voted ‘yes’. His rationale for doing so was in Sunday’s Minneapolis Star-Tribune
Conversely, Andre Carson voted ‘no’
The issue is not cut and dry. Democrats and Republicans fell on both sides. According to this article, the entire housing market is inflated and we need a correction
How’d your Representative vote?

I am no expert, but somehow I think that it is good that it was turned down (and we are still alive). Let the market correct itself naturally. Besides one of the CEOs for one of the failed companies got $13 million for 3 weeks of work.

…and McCain retracts
Saturday night, while on a stop for cheesesteaks in South Philadelphia, Palin was questioned by a Temple graduate student about whether the U.S. should cross the border from Afghanistan into Pakistan.
“If that’s what we have to do stop the terrorists from coming any further in, absolutely, we should,” Palin said.

This week, the VP debate is coming up. Here’s what Cafferty has to say about Her Majesty Queen Palin.
The bar is set very low for her now. If she has a flub-free debate, they can declare victory

I thought that Obama did well in this first debate - especially considering that this was supposed to be McCain’s strong subject. I agree with David Gergen that McCain needed a knockout and did not get it because Obama really held his own in this debate
“I think John McCain needed a clear victory tonight. I [...]

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrinch is opposing the Republican bailout. What he says here makes a lot of sense in many of the points he makes:
Lobbyists are a consequence of big government not a cause of it. The more money centered in government the more value there will be in hiring a lobbyist. The more [...]

This is the trailer for the film 2 Million Minutes which examines how students in India and China are being better prepared than American students to compete in the future…

Sebastian Mallaby explains why Bush’s bailout is a bad idea
The plan is being marketed under false pretenses. Supporters have invoked the shining success of the Resolution Trust Corporation as justification and precedent. But the RTC, which was created in 1989 to clean up the wreckage of the savings-and-loan crisis, bears little resemblance to what is [...]

…for people of color
The money-lenders have already sucked the value out of whole communities, urban and suburban. The wealth loss is staggering: People of color have collectively lost between “$164 billion to $213 billion over the past eight years,” with Latinos losing slightly more than African Americans. For the average American, wealth is passed on [...]

Pat Buchanan (yes, that Pat Buchanan) has a good article on the damage done to our country in the past 20 years. He is essentially arguing that America as we know it is finished. (I suppose China and India will step into the void)
It is essential that we change direction (in a real way) for [...]
