Low Expectations
Posted on September 30th, 2008 by Tariq Nelson
James Farrow expresses exactly what I am afraid of in the coming Biden/Palin debate. Low expectations. As long as Palin is not horribly bad - as she has been recently - then she will actually look good:
I’m not joking about this: in the wake of her catastrophic performance in the Katie Couric interview, Sarah Palin has set expectations so low that she is very likely to do “surprisingly” well against Joe Biden on October 2.
That is, to seem more flustered and incoherent than she did against Couric, Palin would have to move herself into “Eagleton zone,” where her presence on the ticket would no longer be sustainable.

You’re absolutely right. Her expectations are ridiculously low. It’s like people almost feel sorry for her. And I don’t think its because she’s a woman. If it was Hillary things would be totally different. Straight talk: Does anyone think that it’s because she’s younger and more attractive?
Not totally. Yes, there may be a few people who will will always stereotype women( Or men for that matter. Some women thought that Dan Quayle was hot stuff during his run for VP. He said some stupid things, though he talked far more professional than Sarah)because of their looks/age/gender, but in Sarah’s case, those clips tells the real deal.On the other hand, Hillary is a great speaker. She can be graceful and at other times she can be forceful. Hillary has that presidential aura about her. That is a quality that I haven’t sensed in Sarah.
That is what suprises me about Sarah. Here you have a woman who was one a news reporter and she was the governor of the state of Alaska. For some reason , she’s just not making sense with her interviews. As a matter of fact, John and her staff have already said that they are going to continue to train her speech.
Politicially, it is sad that they have to do this with her .This is something that she should have learned in her English and/or Communications( if she had them.) classes. How did all of that elude her? How can you do journalism and seemingly , forget all of this?
Because I just don’t trust the Repugnant-cans, I’m thinking that Sarah is mimicking the way common people speak in the same way that I can mime people in my hood.
If I am wrong about her putting on an act, then my other opinion of her will prevail, which is that Palin thinks that Alaska is it’s own country in and of itself, and that she reflects an isolation and incubation from the lower 48 which is unacceptable. She seemed to be so proud of her insulated life, but it seems to have backfired on her and those who approved of her appointment as VP nominee.
Palin’s attractiveness has surely played an extremely important role, and I knew that the women would fall for her story, while the men simply fell for her. She was accepted without a single thought and she is newer than Obama. When you are new on the scene, you are supposed to be vetted by the people. The Republicans automatically accepted her based upon how she looked, and her lie about the bridge to nowhere. If she were an ugly woman, please believe they would have put her through the ringer.
She was at 80% approval in Alaska because she knows how to be “cute”, and she communicates like the rest of the Alaskans. Alaskans are not a reflection of the U.S. as a whole, so that whole role she plays doesn’t “jive” with 80% of the lower 48.
OMG Sarah Palin doesn’t know who Hamas is!

I seen your clip and I thought that I was hearing things. It did seem that she expressed support for Hamas without knowing so.
Katie Couric asked her did she at least read newspapers to find out about world events( I don’t know about Sarah, but it seemed that Katie asked her “do you read”kind of question. She was probably insulted by it) Sarah said that she did. That’s baffling.( ?!?!). As a kid, I remember hearing about news stories about Hezbollah. I also can remember in the hostage crisis in Iran and the crisis in Grenada. I was no older than 10 years old when I heard about these groups and events.Back then, I wasn’t a big reader of newspapers
back then, but I did watch TV. In recent years, I’ve been reading news magazines from all over the world.
This is REALLY scary My mom, like Sarah, is from a small Georgia town and they have radio/newspapers the where world events are mentioned in it.If they have it in her her hometown, certainly they have it in their (Alaska) newspapers. I don’t believe that she’s read anything .It’s very sad because if she does become VP,we’re going to feel the pain and be the laughing stock of the world. It would be bad to be known to be classified as the beauty with no brains.
I’m going to look at the interview on Thursday. For her sake, I hope that she holds herself. She will possibly be our VP( hopefully not)
