Obama Continues Poll Lead

I wonder how solid these poll leads really are.

With just over three weeks until Election Day, the two presidential nominees appear to be on opposite trajectories, with Sen. Barack Obama gaining momentum and Sen. John McCain stalled or losing ground on a range of issues and personal traits, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Overall, Obama is leading 53 percent to 43 percent among likely voters, and for the first time in the general-election campaign, voters gave the Democrat a clear edge on tax policy and providing strong leadership.

Meanwhile, McCain has been running one of the worst campaigns in recent memory and even has some allies beginning to bail on him

Even Fox News pundits are bailing. I’m still not willing to say that it is over. Not until November 5th

  1. It’s not the overall poll lead (e.g., “Obama is leading 53 percent to 43 percent among likely voters”) that’s important, it’s the electoral college that matters. I’ve been following two websites fairly closely for a while now: FiveThirtyEight.com and Electoral-Vote.com. Both websites are currently projecting an Obama win, insha’allah, 350.5-187.5 for the former, and 343-184 (with 11 tied) for the latter.

  2. As-Salaamu ‘alaikum,

Many of these conservatives were Bush supporters all along, and many of them have been opposed to McCain all along, and I’m not surprised that they have not changed their tune on him now that he’s the Republican candidate. Particularly this is true of Karl Rove, who was implicated in the McCain push-polling affair. Also, there are some conservatives who would prefer a liberal presidency to the wrong sort of conservative - consider Buchanan in 2004 who supported Kerry, even though he said he would oppose him once he actually got elected. Limbaugh suggested he might endorse Clinton (i.e. anyone but McCain). This may well be why McCain’s supporters are going for the ignorant provincials, because they know they are the only people who will vote for anyone except “Barack Hussain Obama”.

  3. Well in case McCain does lose this race, he brought it a lot of it on himself. I guess he didn’t think that his supporters were going to be an omen to him. It isn’t over yet. I’m just hoping that those polls turns out to be Obama’s prosperity. I also found it kind of ironic that the ” hockey mom”,( Sarah) was cheered by some and booed by other during a visit to a hockey game in Philadelphia.

It has been suggested that McCain should get rid of his staff and Sarah. It’s a little late to be asking for that as we have twenty something days before the elections. Initially, McCain started off on the right path, but soon as he got Sarah and looking at those polls, he got crazy( as he’s always been)

I’m glad that John Lewis( D-GA) spoke out against it. Those clips does remind you of the Jim Crow South. It doesn’t matter McCain’s staff wants to down play that,. the racial/religious hostility was there especially when that old woman expressed her fears about Obama being an Arab. It doesn’t matter if McCain wasn’t directly involved in saying the words, he is guilty by association.
