And The Loons Come Out

The first order of business of the Republicans should be to discard the Hannity/Limbaugh wing that are - once again  - passing around silly conspiracy theories. During the Clinton years, many of them (including “religious leaders” like Jerry Falwell) were selling videos and spreading rumors that Bill Clinton sold drugs and had people murdered. Rush Limbaugh also said on his radio show that the Clintons had Vince Foster murdered. After the raid on the Branch Davidians in Waco, TX several on the far-right said that he was going to take away all guns and declare martial law. Some of them claimed that they were being watched by black helicopters

Now that Obama has won, they are attempting a comeback

Georgia Congressman Paul Brown is claiming that Obama wants to establish a Stalinist state:

A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.

“It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he’s the one who proposed this national security force,” Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. “I’m just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism.”

Speaking of Waco, down in Texas, a lunatic school board member is still claiming that Obama is not only not a citizen, but that he is planning a terror attack on America

State Board of Education member Cynthia Dunbar isn’t backing down from her claim that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is plotting with terrorists to attack the U.S.

The Texas Freedom Network, a watchdog group that monitors the board, released a public statement on Monday asking Dunbar to retract the statement.

“I don’t have anything in there that would be retractable,” said Dunbar, R-Richmond. “Those are my personal opinions and I don’t think the language is questionable.”

In a column posted on the Christian Worldview Network Web site, Dunbar wrote that a terrorist attack on America during the first six months of an Obama administration “will be a planned effort by those with whom Obama truly sympathizes to take down the America that is threat to tyranny.”

For his part, Rush Limbaugh is already blaming Obama for the CURRENT recession in spite of the fact that Obama has not even taken office yet. Will he will join the “Keepers of Odd Knowledge Society” (K.O.O.K.S.).

At least some of the Republicans are trying to distance themselves from the insanity before it takes the rest of them down.

  1. Finally, someone is mentioning these lunatics! I just browsed the Ann Coulter website and thought I was going to be sick.

  2. Paul Brown is exactly the man that I wanted to bring up.

It’s just pathetic that these fools cannot accept defeat and more likely a man of color being president of the most powerful nation in the world. This one of several reasons why they lost the elections. But I expected it. It just hurts them to the core that Obama is the new sheriff in town

I also cannot blame some of those Republicans who are trying to distance themselves from them. The party is already looking crappy and it doesn’t help if they come up with some unproven made up theories. Paul Brown compared Obama with Hilter. Hilter accused the Jewish community of depleting the German way of life. Brown comes closer to being Hitler than Obama. And some Republicans wonder why some Demos like me never vote for them?

  5. Soul-searching Republicans. They are trying to figure out what went wrong. The emerging consensus: Republican candidates strayed from their core principles of fiscal conservatism and small government. Cramped thinking of that sort ensures the Republican party’s minority status.
Roll the tape for a larger picture of the problem — and a glimpse of what lies ahead: Scan the faces of delegates to the Republican and Democratic conventions, as well as the McCain-Palin and Obama-Biden campaign crowds. Examine the demographic results in Tuesday’s election.
Now consider the U.S. Census Bureau’s population projections.
If the GOP does not become more inclusive and open to new ideas, it could take on the image (not the ideology) of F.W. De Klerk’s now disbanded National Party of South Africa.
If that happens, Obama can thank narrow-minded Republican strategists.

  6. As-Salaamu ‘alaikum,

In 1945, in the campaign for the British general election just after the War, in which the Labour opposition leader (Clement Attlee) was campaigning on the basis of the Beveridge report which advocated a national health service and a welfare state, Churchill told the public that the government would need some sort of Gestapo to enforce schemes like those. Churchill, despite having led the country in the war (albeit as part of a coalition which included Attlee), lost the election, and that remark was a major factor.

  7. I’m really worried for Obama’s safety. There are some truly certifiable right-wing nut jobs out there! With some people even saying he’s the anti-Christ, I can really imagine some good-ol-boy from “Real America” thinking he’s doing a righteous deed…

Of course his adversaries want him to fail and to smear him, but the thing that I like about him is that he is not giving into their stupidity. It takes a strong man to do that.

Life is about taking risks. Obama knows them, but I would not want to see him ever quit for them.I want to see Obama alive and well, but if shall something happen to him, I much would rather see him die in his position than for him to surrender himself to them. So many leaders, from this generation until now have lost their lives/rights for us, but nobody can ever say it was for nothing. I, like may others ,are praying for for his safety and direction( as well as his family’s safety), but it all has to be in god’s will.
