A friend of mine emailed me yesterday informing me that I am a finalist for the weblog awards under the “religion” category”. (This on the heals of winning the Brass Crescent’s “best blog” award!) I had no idea that I was even nominated, much less made it as a finalist.
According to the site, the Weblog [...]

President-elect Obama released the following statement:
Roland Burris is a good man and a fine public servant, but the Senate Democrats made it clear weeks ago that [...]

Remember those Batman copy cats in The Dark Knight? Well there are an increasing number of real ones out there trying to fight crime.
They may look wacky, but the superhero community was born in the embers of the 9/11 terrorist attacks when ordinary people wanted to do something short of enlisting. They were boosted by [...]

While every other adult population in industrialized nations is getting taller, a study claims that black American women are actually getting shorter. Say what you want, but diet and exercise seem to be pretty important things to emphasize during childhood.

A reader sent me this video from Meet the Press earlier in the year in which Robert Kennedy is quoted saying that a black person could be President of the United States in 40 years.

Well, the roller coaster season of my long time beloved Dallas Cowboys ended today on a very sour note - a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and (more importantly) playoff berth. It is a sad day because we came into this season with an unprecedented 13 Pro Bowlers and one of the best defenders (Demarcus [...]

With Kay Bailey Hutchison recently saying that she would not seek re-election after this term (and may even leave in 2009) Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Michael L. Williams has announced his intention to fill the seat. He has previously served as Assistant Secretary of Education for Civil Rights and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Law Enforcement [...]

A reader emailed the trailer below. It is a documentary entitled “Man Up: The Exploration of a Fatherless Nation” which explores all aspects of Fatherlessness in the black community. I plan to get it and view it with a gathering of friends and discuss ways we can work to improve the situation rather than simply [...]

More than 79% of Americans feel “the most significant family or social problem facing America is the physical absence of the father from the home.” Research shows that the lack of a father in the home correlates closely with crime, educational and emotional problems, teenage pregnancy, and drug and alcohol abuse.
In an effort to show [...]

The City of Detroit reportedly has 21% unemployment. The average home sold for less than many cars in 2008. There are even people wanting to go to jail to be warm for the winter. However, that part is nothing new (perhaps more common) as I have known from my time being a volunteer Chaplain in [...]

I would like to thank everyone who voted for my blog in the Brass Crescent Awards for Best Blog and Best Writer. I did not mention it before because I think that it is tacky to campaign for an award, and I saw it as a form of campaigning. That said, I really also appreciate [...]
