Good Riddance

Lost Re-election to Republican in majority black, safe Democratic District
9 term US Representative “Dollar” Bill Jefferson was defeated by Joseph Cao - a community organizer - who will be the first Vietnamese-American to go to Congress. The district is majority black and Democrat. Cao is a Republican with an inspiring story.
His bio reads:
Despite a disadvantaged childhood in a refugee community, Cao excelled in academics and went on to study at Baylor University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Physics. He went on to receive a master’s degree in philosophy at Fordham University and considered studying to become a priest before entering law school at Loyola University, where he received a J.D. in 2000.
People like Kwame Kilpatrick and Jefferson need and deserve to be thrown out of office on their ear and demand people that will represent them well - regardless of race.
Contrary to popular opinion, being black is not enough for blacks to vote for a person. Earlier this year, in Tennessee’s 9th District, the mostly black district OVERWHELMINGLY re-elected a Jewish Congressman (Steve Cohen) in spite of a blatantly racist campaign run by a black woman attempting to “take back” the seat for blacks.

TOTALLY off topic, but I see now why Umm Farouq was so excited to see your name on my blog!!
Thanks for the honor of the read, Tariq, and I look forward to reading more of your writing.
Yes…good riddance!!
What an awful mess!
That should send a clear signal to some leaders who just want to rely on their race to be elected in office. As an African-American woman, being a Black voter is simply not enough for me putting them in office. They have to be GOOD politicians regardless of who they are.
About three years ago, there was a young African-American woman who was vying for a local seat for county commissioner. At that time there was at least two White people who was running for that same seat. This district is also predominately AA with a sprinkling of Whites in it, but one of the White lady( candidate won a lot of the Black vote.I was reading the results of it. The results said that the two White candidates out did her. Did race play a factor in this? Far from it. I know this woman personally. As a matter of fact, I grew up with her husband. If you ask me, it didn’t suprise me that she lost it or worse, didn’t get to second base. I don’t live in her district, but if I did, I WOULDN’T vote for her( I wouldn’t tell her husband that. I may sound like a backstabber but hey? I’m wouldn’t vote for a person who doesn’t have my best interest especially if they don’t seem into their people.)
I just don’t care that much for his wife. She’s arrogant. The thing that I liked about at least one fo the White candidate was that he a grassrooted kind of guy. He reached out to the people. He didn’t make them seem second class citizens and he’s pretty friendly. She on the other hand isn’t. She isn’t very friendly. She wasn’t there for the people and if you’re not there for them , they ar enot going to be there for you, which isexactly happended to her. To me , people like her is a user of Black voters.
Right now, William Jefferson must feel like a complete fool to see that a Vietmamese Republican has taken his place, probably some where in his thick head he probably thought that he had a chance to win and take his voters for granted once more. If a Republican has won the hearts of the voters in a heaily Democratc district like the one mentioned in the article, that should tell him ( and others like him) that game is getting old and worn out.
