Man Up: The Documentary

A reader emailed the trailer below. It is a documentary entitled “Man Up: The Exploration of a Fatherless Nation” which explores all aspects of Fatherlessness in the black community. I plan to get it and view it with a gathering of friends and discuss ways we can work to improve the situation rather than simply complain. I suggest others do the same…

The synopsis of the film is below:

This documentary will fully explore many of the facets of fatherlessness in an intense effort to show the magnitude of this social epidemic. Man-Up will take an uncompromising look at the lives that hang in the balance. You will hear personal testimonies of triumph and devastation as we navigate our way through the experiences of growing up without a father and the effects thereof. Again, our mission is to give a face to the faceless and a voice to the voiceless children who are now suffering and asking themselves the unanswerable question “why me?”.

You will hear from the MEN who left their child behind; those who stayed and the fathers who are battling the court system for the right to see their children. You will also hear from the women who are raising these children alone and experience the pain and hurt they feel inside. We delve into the good, bad and the ugly scenarios that are played out everyday as men, women and even children battle this socially disparaging disease.

Man-Up: The Documentary will attempt to provide methods of healing as we talk to psychologists and socially conscience community activists and leaders. As we look for answers, in the end our hope is to pull back the delicately placed scab covering up the wounds that will never heal if we don’t confront fatherlessness head on.

Umm Layth The ex-takfiree lady turned soofee….and her husband Abu layth are seriously confused….Return back to paltalk and apologize to countless people you and your husband removed from the religion of islam!!!!!!!!!!This is what TAWBAH is ya bonnie and clyde,,,,,, and tariq what does this have to with islam and being a muslim father!!!!!!!!! Why has your blog turned into a racial rant??????…..Being a black kafir and being a muslim aint the same(the muslim is going to heavan while the black kafir will be in hell if he doesnt accept islam)….!!!!!!! A black kafir raising a child is not the same ….The paternity of the black kafir for the most of them is not acceptable, due the fact most of the relationships are from FORNICATION!!!!!!!! so what do we as muslims have in common with that????? Unlizzted2008-2009 to blow ya mind inshaallah!!!!!!!!

  6. People of good will have to ignore these naysayers who feel comfortable in sitting on the side lines and pointing fingers and continue to do the good work

  7. Assalamu Alaikum,
Thanks for the post. Alhamdulillah I remain grateful to Allah for knowing and being raised by my father who is still married to my mother. I’ve known too many people whose experiences of their parents’ bad marriage- and the influence of a bad father or the lack of a father at all- have led them to run as far away from it as possible, with the disastrous results we see in our communities.

Think about it- we can’t do effective dawah without knowing that to which Allah calls us, but also from what he’s calling us.

And I have to say the attack on UmmLayth is unwarranted based on my personal observations. Please remember that only Allah will say who is and is not within His deen.

    Give this to em…

2:169 [Shaitân (Satan)] commands you only what is evil and Fahshâ (sinful), and that you should say against Allâh what you know not.

  10. As a former kid of divorce, I can definitely relate to those kids.

I would like for you to contact me so I can learn more about you and your blog.

    Thanks.
