We Need a New Coach! (Bring Bill Cowher)
Well, the roller coaster season of my long time beloved Dallas Cowboys ended today on a very sour note - a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and (more importantly) playoff berth. It is a sad day because we came into this season with an unprecedented 13 Pro Bowlers and one of the best defenders (Demarcus Ware) in the league. We have talent at wide receiver and 3 good running backs, yet we did not make the playoffs. Wade Phillips seems like a nice guy, but he needs to go. He is a great defensive coordinator, but just an average coach, so Jerry needs to let him go. And while he is at it, he needs to let Jason Garrett go too. The league has figured out his offense and he definitely should not be promoted. I know that Jerry said that the “coaching staff is in place“, but he needs to do something after this meltdown. You can’t add any more players to this roster so what else can be done?
But I defintely can’t let Romo off the hook. The honeymoon is over. Again, seems like a nice guy, but if I were him, I wouldn’t show up at any Mavericks games any time soon. If he does, they’d better not put him on the jumbotron. He committed a TON of turnovers this season and single handedly cost us about 2-3 games - and hence a spot in the playoffs. But at the end of the day, you can’t ‘fire’ him. He commits a lot of back breaking turnovers, but last I looked, quarterbacks like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady were unavailable so we have to stick with him for a couple of years and hope that he cuts down on the turnovers. In the meantime, Jerry should draft a young quarterback next season and begin to develop him for the future.
I can only hope that a new coach (like Bill Cowher) can reign Romo in and give this talented team the championship swagger that they need. Besides, after a let down like this season, Jerry Jones MUST shake things up in order to have some kind of excitement coming into next season. Like the Yankees, he is opening a new billion dollar stadium next season and needs some buzz. He NEEDS a championship coach. So I say: do what must be done Jerry! Open the wallet ($4 to $5 Million per season), give Bill Cowher the keys to the kingdom and let him win a 6th (7th? 8th?) Super Bowl for this proud franchise with this talented roster.

My bias right up front. I hate the Cowboys because Terry Owens is on the team and because Jerry signed him and allow him to act selfish, no matter what the coach says. He handcuffs the coach.
I think they should the following:
1.Somehow get owner Jerry to stay out of the day-to-day
work of the Cowboys;
2. Hire a GM to deal with this stuff.
3. Get rid of T. O.
4. Get rid of Pac Man Jones if there is one more mess up.
5. Hire a coach that believes in team over all else and has
some discipline like Coughlin has with the Giants.
@ MacDaddy
#1 - Probably will not happen.
#2 - If it does, he will hire his son Stephen, who is 2nd in command
#3 - TO is probably not going anywhere
#4 - Pacman was not much of a factor in this meltdown.
#5 - Cowher is such a guy, but I just don’t know if Jerry will open up his wallet to bring him on board.
We will NEED a change. There is too much talent on this team to be outside of the playoffs
Well I may be in same spot as you Tariq. As bad as the Chargers have been this year at least they have one more game to go and I’m hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Please Allah no more bad referees.
Salaam,
Why would Cowher go to that mess of a franchise, and have to deal with TO and Jerry Jones? I don’t think money alone is going to do it. Wherever Cowher goes, he’s going to demand complete control, not want an owner like Jones hanging over him.
I love seeing the Cowboys self destruct. TO, Jerry Jones, and the supremely overrated Romo. It’s so sweet.
Assalaamu Alaikum. In spite of your loyalty to the Cowboys, I really enjoy your site. I have to say, nothing is sweeter for an Eagles fan than to make the playoffs by crushing the Cowboys while simultaneously knocking the Cowboys out of the playoffs. If I recall, Bill Parcels told Tony Romo not to drink the koolaid when he was coaching in Dallas.
@ Dawud
McNabb has really been through it in Philly. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves. They just may be able to make a super bowl run
I was extremely delighted to see the Cowboys get crush by the Eagles.
Can’t wait till the Giants play!

It amazes me that people cite Pacman for no other reason than his name. The Cowboys meltdown had absolutely nothing to do with Adam Jones, not even in the most minimal way.
Tariq, thanks for acnowledging Donovan’s plight in Philly. I don’t think the the Eagles fans will really appreciate him unfortunately until after he is gone. (Winning a Superbowl might help too) On another note, I am amazed at how fickle the sports commentators are. I got the sense last season the commentators thought Wade Pillips’ demeanor was exactly what the Cowboys needed, now there seems to be a consensus his style and personanlty are all wrong for the Cowboys.
Don’t know about Bill Cower but maybe they can get Shanahan who was just fired from the Broncos.
Sorry Bro but…GO STEELERS!!! Yep–nothing like that “Cohwer Power”!!! Gee I miss him–even though the “new guy” isnt doing too bad of a job.
Although I have much respect for you Jerry Jones as a businessman, step aside from the GM post and bring in Bill Cohwer to harness the business of dealing with Romo, TO, and a talented Cowboy team that appears to be sleepwalking. Cohwer has the motivation skills as well as the football mind to bring back the big one for Dallas. Jerry, if you felt like I did after the Eagles game, and it ain’t about the money, tell Wade good bye and give the Cowboys new breath. Jerry, you said it best, it’s only business………..now get it done !
Grady
Couldn’t agree with you more Grady, but I’m sorry to say that it looks like it will not happen unless Jerry has a sudden change of heart
