Reality Show Called the NFL

Watching football is like watching a reality show except you are emotionally invested. You can’t help it. And when there is controversy the media fuels it even more to boost the ratings - particularly in Dallas.
After the Giants/Cowboys game, I watched the post game shows with amazement as the Cowboys actually won the game, but if I hadn’t actually watched the game, I would have thought that they lost. I can’t even enjoy the games for all the drama. Demarcus Ware is a legitimate contender for Defensive Player of the Year and even has an outside shot to break the NFL record for sacks, yet no one is talking about it. Our defense is playing at a championship level, but you don’t hear or read about it.
They want to talk about T.O. They know that he is a time bomb and they keep pushing his buttons to get more controversy going. They don’t ask questions about the game, but ask about controversy to print.
But it is not only stressful being a Cowboys fan. I spoke to a friend of mine (who is a Ravens fan) after the Steelers/Ravens game. He was dejected and barely wanted to talk after the Ravens lost in the last minute. Those are the ups and downs of being football fans. The drama is so intense from week to week. The build up. The game. Then either the thrill or victory or the agony of defeat. You watch the coverage with glee if you win. Can’t bare to listen after a loss.
It is getting to the point that even if my team wins the Superbowl that it would be more relief than happiness. I will continue to watch because I love the game…but the drama continues…

You’re spot on, the NFL is a reality show. And just like reality shows, I don’t particularly like it that much. Going along with that analogy, I prefer college football, its more like the documentary equivalent. Not as fake and contrived, and still stands for some sort of tradition.
I can’t believe the Giants lost to the Cowboys. We have to win against Carolina next week.
One thing I really hate about the Cowboys and how the NFL and their fans portray them is how they call them “America’s Team”. They aren’t. They are the DALLAS Cowboys, not the America Cowboys.
Seriously though T.O. is a cry baby.
@ Amir
The Cowboys - like the Yankees - are the most popular team (and most hated). They ARE America’s team. The Cowboys are also the most valuable franchise in sports. They draw the big ratings. That is why they draw so much attention no matter what. I don’t like it, but that it how it is when you are like that.
I think T.O. may be histrionic. I like him, but I am serious
This season both of my teams didn’t do so well so I’m stepped away from NFL. I “might” watch the super bowl if any good teams play. I definitey wont be watching if the Colts or the cheaters make it to the super bowl. Last super bowl’s defeat of the cheaters was the highlight of the this year (after Obama winning of course).
And NO the cowboys are not America’s team period.lol
One more thing why would anybody watch college football or any college sports? If you don’t or ever attending that school why wold you care if the school wins of not? I never understood people’s fascination with college sports. I could care less if that school beats this school.
FYI, last night’s game between the Giants and Cowboys was the highest-rated football game of the season and the second-highest in the three-year history of NBC’s Sunday Night Football broadcasts.
The Cowboys’ appearances on Sunday Night Football have been the three most-watched Sunday night games of the year. The Cowboys game against the Eagles was also the highest rated game of the Monday Night games
@ Tariq ASA
quit your whining LOL at least the cowboys are a PROFESSIONAL football team!!! I’m a two year recovering LIONS fan yes recovering after 32 years I finally kicked the habit
Giants fan checking in,
Yea, that was a tough loss for the Giants. They have been struggling because of off the field issues like Plaxico’s antics (which also got Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce involved).
They have lost the last 2 games to average football teams like Eagles and Cowboys (say what you want but the Cowboys are not a ‘Super Bowl Contender’ as much as they like to dub themselves).
While they may be “America’s team” much like the Yankees - I don’t think their playoff performance can match it. They have the league record for the worst playoffs losing streak at 6 games and haven’t won since 96 when they got the Super Bowl. For a while it looked like the Patriots were “America’s team” with their dominating performances.
One think I can say for many Cowboys “fans” are that most of them are groupies & bandwagon when the team is winning, just like all the Yankee “fans” who come out when they are winning but disappear when the team is losing (maybe they become Patriots fans in those seasons). I can speak of this from living in NYC when the Yanks won championships but was a consistent Mets fan although they were losing.
But I will give to Jerry Jones - he knows what sells and how to sell it. He went and got T.O. to help the team become better but not Super Bowl better. The Steelers have a better shot this year than the Cowboys who may face the Cards in the 1st round and lose again (they lost to them earlier this year).
Giants lost that game because of poor pass protection and no running game (Derrick Ward was bad and can’t replace Brandon Jacobs). I think losing Plex will force Amani Toomer to step up his game. Eli also looks a little lost instead of his confident self.
No sweats - Giants always do their best under pressure.
See ya in the playoffs Tariq!
btw, Demarcus Ware will break Strahan’s record - only 3 1/2 sacks to go. He’ll get at least 2 from the Ravens weak offensive line.
@ Abu Usamah
Maybe the Lions will win…someday. Shannon Sharpe actually apologized to the fans on Thanksgiving for them having to watch the Lions
@ Dunia Stranger
Like I said, Demarcus is a legit Defensive MVP candidate. The team I would be looking out for is Carolina
I hate the NFL.
@Hamza21
Well, I actually did attend Penn State. I might agree with you partly with you about why someone who didn’t attend a particular school would support that school, but this is the exact reason I can’t get into pro sports. Why should I support a team that I can’t possibly relate to? Or the professionals who move around to whatever team pays them the most?
At least with a college team, if you attended the school, you saw the kids on the team walking around campus, it gave you a sense of ownership. With the pro teams, there’s a good number of them that haven’t even been in the same location since their inception, they move to the money.
