What’s In A Name?

… apparently still a lot as 2010 could see a lot of dynastic races.

(President-elect Barack Obama’s) secretary of state will be Hillary Clinton, the wife of the former president. The Senate seat she’ll vacate is being pursued by Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of a president and the niece of two senators. Joe Biden’s Senate seat may go to his son Beau. Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar, Obama’s pick for interior secretary, could end up being replaced by his brother, Rep. John Salazar.

Although the article above picks on the Democrats, they play down the prospect that “JEB” Bush is considering a run for Senate in 2010.

I will say this about American political dynasties. You must be competent - at least most of the time. In Tennessee, the powerful Ford family tried to run Harold Ford Jr’s idiot brother Jake Ford that made George W. Bush look like Albert Einstein. They thought the Ford family name would be enough to put him into office.

  1. Competent and politically palatable. The Udall family is a very good example of a political family that has succeeded at very high levels of office for several generations. On the other hand, one Arizona politician (whom I shan’t name because I dated his sister about fifteen years ago ;) ) did succeed to a degree in following his dad’s footsteps, but I think his politics were just a tad too radical for most people to promote to a higher level of office (the highest he got was a state position).

  2. No more Bush!

Even though I may not want to see another Bush getting into that white house, I will respect him on one thing: Even he didn’t have any confidence of his older brother being our president. If it was left to the both of them being the only people running for president( if there were a such thing) I would have more confidence in Jeb running this country than his big brother.Maybe the voters should have listened to him during his brother’s run for president.

I do not know why they are riding all over Caroline kennedy’s back about her experience. It was not that long ago that we praised Sarah Palin for her ” experience”.
Yes one should have some kind of experience going there.
Most of the qualifications that was used for Sarah was basically nothing. If we can make excuses for people like her, we can certainly put Caroline in that Senate seat.
