Overtime

I agree with Peter King. The rules for overtime in the NFL need to be changed. Each team needs one shot at the ball, then go to sudden death after that. Defensive score automatically wins the game.
My fix is simple. I think a coin should be flipped at the start of overtime, with the winning team having the choice of whether to take the ball first. But then, if neither team has the lead after the second possession of overtime, the game enters sudden death. That’s it. Each team is guaranteed one offensive possession, unless the defensive team on the first possession scores.
I hope they fix it in the off-season.
In other news, I DO hope that he leaves. And take the D-Coordinator with him

Hey Tariq, nice blog you have here. I have to say that I agree with you on this. I never really thought about it until I watched the Indianapolis Colts lose in overtime to the Chargers last Saturday. Yeah, I was rooting for them.
To me it would add more excitement to the game. But then again, I guess the object of the game is to win and not have to go into overtime to decide it.
Oh well, I’m still unhappy that the Colts lost the way they did.
I just hope we don’t have to go to OT.
We = Giants
You might lobby for something similar to what the IFAB/FIFA use with respect to overtime play in soccer. In non-league games, such as certain championships, if there’s a draw at the end of full time, the teams play two fifteen-minute periods. There is no sudden-death rule so that if one team scores in either of the two periods, play continues until the additional 30 minutes are up. It’s only after the additional 30 minutes are over that a penalty shootout is done if the score still remains a draw. In this regard, the extra 30 minutes is fairer as it allows the team not scoring a set amount of time to try to catch up (just as in baseball, play continues until the home team has the opportunity to play their half of the inning).
@ JDsg
That is probably not a bad idea. They could just let them play out the entire extra overtime period
It’s called “Sudden Death” because this isn’t a game for whiny babies. If your team can’t win in 60 minutes, don’t cry about losing a coin toss. And your offense wouldn’t be sitting on the sideline if it had done its job in the first 4 quarters of the game!
You don’t get 7 tries to win the Superbowl and you don’t get to take turns in Sudden Death.
If you can’t handle watching your team go down in flames, stick to t-ball where they don’t keep score, because “losing might hurt someone’s feelings”.

Thank You!!!!!! LOL LOL it’s sudden death overtime, not prolonged death

Coming from a former lions fan, I know all about tears, yelling, throwing things, breaking things two of the many times I got banded from watching football one was in 1983 when mr. surefoot freakin’ eddie murray missed a field goal against san-fran and I forgot which year but it was a thanksgiving game against da-bears in ot da bears took the ensuing kick-off all the way back for a touchdown… oh then coach Mourning-Wig, won the toss and decided to take the wind and gave up the ball, needless to they didn’t win that game either. and then it was that time when… ahww nevermind my stomach hurts and it’s not because I’ve been fasting either…. what was the topic again…
