Terminator Becomes Reality
Posted on April 9th, 2009 by Tariq Nelson
Over the past few months when reading about the unmanned drone attacks in Pakistan, I thought about the unmanned Skynet drones from the Terminator movies (at 2:02 in the video below). It seems that Tom Englehart has had similar thoughts
If we move more toward robotic warfare, my fear is that there is a chance that the system could become “self aware” and determine that all of mankind is a threat and decide to destroy everyone. Similar to Sentinels from the X-Men series

Creepy.
Sooner or later, robots will be licensed killers. But now, all of the “drones” are in fact piloted remotely by humans (at least the ones in active service–who knows what the DoD is doing in test areas). So we’re not there yet. But I don’t agree that it is a foregone conclusion that an intelligent system will simply conclude humanity needs to be saved by being exterminated. This is probably a projection of our own fears rather than any actual logic that a computer would devise.
Its tempting to think that robots wiping us out might be just desserts, and possibly the next stage of evolution.
I mean when you think about it, the worst parasite on the planet is the human isn’t it?
Hmmmm…you never know. Man has tapped into a lot of things that we have thought was far-fetched and in some cases, should let well enough alone like cloning. Some people feel that cloning could get to a similar point where people will use it to to satisify some sick taste of theirs. Just imagine if Hilter was around what sick and diabolical project he world have doing it.
Hitler types are already within the gates, except they’re American not Bavarian. If you don’t already, listen to right-wing talk radio. Then pick up a translation of early Nazi propaganda. (if you speak German) The same “faux populist” bent is there.
Its called the “singularity” and its within 50 years according to experts. Its a powerful word because its not just in the world of computer technology but also in astrophysics (they showed a singularity, like a black hole).
I’ve written about it from a muslim perspective, but I warn you it might sound like another crazy conspiracy theory…yeah, we have too many of those. I won’t say anything like it could be the dajjal because its too early but I definitely think we need to re-think this mindless and endless “progress” (to where?) of technology.
I wrote about the singularity after watching a few documentaries and reading some research from Dell.
Take a peek at least: http://muslimology.wordpress.com/2008/08/25/what-is-the-singularity/
