  1. In this case, Obama may have acted to quickly in cutting the program.

I’m not a parent, but I sympathize with the kids and parents. My sister is considering homeschooling for her kids, especially my oldest nephew. He will be in middle school and the school that he will have to attend sucks and it has been for years. If not she’s considering moving to another county to get it. She would love to get one of those vouchers. I have been compliant with Obama’s ideas, but with this one, hmmm ….I have mixed feelings about.

While I do not think that he should have so hastily stop funding the program, I must agree that just taking a kid from a underperforming school to a high performing private school will not solve this problem. This may seem redundant , but the reasons that many public schools are in this mess because it’s overcrowded and there is no real connection for education with teachers, students, parents and the school boards. Seemingly, everybody is for themselves. Some students could care less about school, some teachers are really tired or just there for the paycheck, some parent feel that it’s the schools job to educate their kids/babysit them and the board, they are just there to look pretty and could care less about the needs of their schools. This is why many public schools are not making the grade.

I look at the news about new schools and the thing that bugs me about their ideas of getting kids to learn. They’ll say” look at this newly built school and the equipment in it. Yes! that will get’ em learning”. Yes, the appearance of a building a new learning can move kids, but it’s not the answer as their schools continues to fail them.

I’m all for higher learning, but my only concern about the program( not to say that I’m agreeing with Obama with this issue) is that if we send all of these kids from these lower performing schools, how will this solve the problem with them and public education? If I had kids, here would be some questions that I would have before I send them there: 1) Are they higher performing kids 2) am I ” higher performing” parent. These parents may be the ones who desire better for themselves, but there are also many parents who also don’t to do the work, but send their kids there for them to( the schools) to do it. That is what concerns me little with the vouchers. I don’t know the dynamics of how the D.C. program works, but if we keep sending kids to private schools, without a solution in improving public education, private school may become public schools all over again.
